How To Care For Your Pearls?

Dos & Don’ts
  1. Use jewellery cleaners that are labeled safe for pearls.
  2. Avoid ultrasonic cleaner.
  3. Avoid steam-cleaning pearls.
  4. Prevent pearls from being exposed to dish or washing detergents, bleaches, powdered cleaners, baking soda, or ammonia-based cleaners.
  5. Avoid using toothbrushes, scouring pads or coarse materials to clean pearls.
  6. Avoid hanging pearls to dry.
  7. Remove your pearls when applying cosmetics, hair spray, and perfume, or when showering or swimming.
  8. If you wear your pearls often, have them restrung once a year.
  9. Avoid from storing pearls in a plastic bag.
  10. Avoid storing pearls in a safe/safety deposit box for long periods.
 
Cleaning and Storing Your Pearls
  1. Wipe your pearls after wearing with a soft cloth (dry or damp) to avoid dirt from accumulating and perspiration from eating away the pearl nacre.
  2. Use a drop of olive oil on the cloth to help maintain the pearl’s luster.
  3. After washing your pearls, lay them flat on a moist towel to dry.
  4. Store pearls in their individual jewellery pouch/silk bag/velvet-lined box/pearl folder to avoid contact with other gems.
